Default pure offense build?

most (or maybe all) mesmer builds require your target to do something to use your skills/build...i was wondering if there is a un-conditional mesmer build out there (using mesmer skills only) that can do damage kind of like a elementalist would do...i hope you understand what i mean...

Echo
Spiritual Pain
Energy Burn
Unnatural Signet
Leech Signet
Mantra of Inscriptions
Ether Feast
Ressurection Signet

This is a basic spike build for mesmer primaries that works well wiht these attributes:

Inspiration: 9+1
Domination: 12+1+3
Fast Casting: 9+1
Illusion: 0

I use it all the time in pvp and pve. You can switch Unnatural Signet with Backfire or Empathy to add extra dmg to spellcasters and melees in different situations.

I'd swap echo for arcane echo and energy burn for energy surge. You're pretty much using nothing but spells anyway, so you might as well have the area energy drain, rather then the targeted one. I'd also drop Ether Feast, Unnatural Signet and the Mantra and replace with Power Drain, Empathy and Backfire. More damage, an extra interrupt and, did I mention more damage?

there is no area energy drain from Esurge, the target loses 8 energy at 16 dom and is hit for 10 dmg for each point of energy lost. All surrounding foes are also hit wiht 80 dmg. No nergy drain AoE here. Echoing SP does more dmg than E surge alone, that is y i have echo SP.

alright, if you are just using echo for e drain alone i would suggest going with mantra of recovery instead because that way ALL your spell are getting the half cast time instead of just e drain.

heres how I would do this same build:

1. {e} mantra of recovery
2. energy drain
3. wastrels demise
4. Spiritual pain
5. power spike
6. power drain/energy tap
7. ether feast/channeling
8. rez sig

same stats as posted by the guy above

however, what do you mean by {do damage kinda like an ele}? do you mean aoe?

ok, typo. I didn't mean area energy drain, I meant e-drain followed by area damage.

As for echo'ed spiritual pain dealing more, at 16, they're pretty close, one does 80 damage, the other 79. Echoing E-Surge is roughly equal for the area effects, then echoing SP. The difference would be the extra damage to the target vs e-draining the target.

That said, yeah, Mantra of Recover sounds like a pretty good idea save that I misremembered the build I was using. It was just domination and fast cast. I was using Guilt and Mistrust (energy boost and more area damage) as my counters, not Leech Signet and Power Drain.

This is my Domination which I use in PvE and have a lot of fun with. This is for PvE right? Don't know them all out of my head so I'll paste the template here.

A1QAkCP5PjGgDQUxpFBXAMQmAA

Hex Eater Vortex is very useful in Factions and Nightfall, I ask the monk to lay off the hexes that the Warrior has, cus I can devestate people with it and it's a nice remover overall. Spirit of Failure is still the best non-elite energy management after all the adjustments to the Mesmer skills in my opinion. Next to Power Drain then... Guilt is nice too, it prevents a spell targeted at one of your allies and steals energy. Empathy and Backfire need no introduction. Maybe swap out Shatter Enchantment for something else in Factions, something like Shatter Hex (even more hexes there), Power Spike or Power Leak, becuse of all the necros and eles. Dang I just summed up all my spells. Guess I knew it after all My advice is to get that Insignia that provides additional armor when skills are recharging or Radiant. Good luck and tell me what you think. Oh, and like every mesmer would tell you, adjust your build to the surroundings. (Energy denial, Shutdown, Support, Degen, Anti Melee, Anti Caster, Interruption)

when i said "damage like an ele" i wasnt really specific. i meant un-conditional damage. most mesmer skills rely on your target to use skills for them to do damage (interupt skills, skills like ineptitude). pretty much direct damage...the build Dean Harper posted is an example of what i meant.

No, its not 79 dmg, its 106 on the target and 79 to all adjacent foes.

Mantra of Recovery is nice, but i still would rather use Echo.

Mistrust and Guilt are skills that are conditional, which is not wat was asked for by the original poster.

those are conditional as well, and not wat the guy wants.

dean harper, i tried your build but instead of using echo, use glyph of renewal. its more efficient in that build. with echo, you can only cast it twice. with glyph of renewal you can cast it twice, but it has a recharge of 15 so you can glyph another skill before spiritual pain recharges. youll notice too with the glyph that if you cast spiritual pain (or any spell) just before the glyph ends, you can use spiritual pain 3 times by. you cast spiritual pain just before the glyph recharges, cast the glyph again, and then spiritual pain 2 more times.

Why? Why would anyone want to play the mesmer class like this?

its true, if you want a spike build, just go ele. Mesmers are supposed to be conditional dmg dealers and not made to do spiking dmg.

well, conditional damage is what mesmers are "supposed to" do...they dont HAVE to though. just like an assassin is supposed to spike, not critical barrage. just trying to think of some builds that isnt the same old stuff over again.

I'm using this build in PvE atm:

Template: A1RBAF8484I6WC4UT3NdBqBw4A

You have to watch to cast assasins promise at the right time.
But once you're used with it, it's quite fun to play.

Obi wins. I'd put Mistrust in the last slot.
